How To Choose The Right Telehandler Capacity
A telehandler's maximum rated capacity does not mean it can lift that same weight at every boom position. As the boom is raised or extended forward, the machine's available lifting capacity can change.
HELI's telehandler specifications separate maximum load capacity from maximum forward reach, lift capacity at maximum reach, maximum lift height and lift capacity at maximum height. That is why choosing a telehandler should be based on the actual job, not simply the tonne rating on the machine.
When selecting a telehandler, consider:
- Maximum load weight
- Required lift height
- Required forward reach
- The attachment being used
- Site and ground conditions
The manufacturer's telehandler load chart should then be checked to confirm the machine can safely handle the required load at the height and reach needed for the job.
Tell us your load weight, required lift height and forward reach and we'll check the manufacturer's load chart and help match the right telehandler to the job.
Telehandler Or Forklift?
A telehandler and a forklift both lift and move loads, but a telehandler’s telescopic boom extends forward and up, reaching over obstacles, into upper levels, and across uneven ground that a standard forklift can’t handle.
If your site is rough terrain, multi-storey, or needs reach as well as lift, a telehandler is the right tool. If you’re moving pallets on a flat warehouse floor, a standard forklift is usually the more cost-effective choice.
Talk To Our TeamTelehandler For Sale FAQ
How much does a telehandler cost in Australia?
New Heli telehandlers start from around $92,000 ex GST for a 2,500kg unit, rising to over $200,000 for heavy 7,500kg mining spec machines. Used units start lower depending on hours and condition.
What size telehandler do I need?
The right telehandler depends on your load weight, required lift height and forward reach. Maximum rated capacity can change as the boom is raised or extended, so the manufacturer's load chart should be checked against the job requirements. Tell our team what you need to lift, how high and how far forward, and we'll help match the correct machine.
Can I hire a telehandler before I buy?
